Plexus is a 9:30-minute HD video with stereo sound, animation by Rachel Clarke, and music composed by Stephen Blumberg.
Describing an intricate network or web-like formation, the word “plexus” derives from the Latin plectere, to braid. It is also used to describe interconnected networks of nerves and vessels in the body.
In this digitally animated video, image fragments derived from digital photographs of discarded junk are drastically manipulated. The image data is broken down, reformulated, and woven into aggregated cellular structures, forming fluid spaces. The forms, spaces, and sounds ambiguously suggest nature, creating a synthetic ecology.
